The waiver wire is a blast every week but nothing feels the same as pulling off a trade! Finding the right compensation can be tough and coming to an agreement is even harder. While we would all love to trade for JCM, alright I can't pretend anymore. That guy might actually suck. Some people really did sell the farm for him. In any case, this is about attainable targets because in all honesty you know Chase and Justin Jefferson are still off limits in dynasty.
Week 3 is in the rearview and as a result there are always a lot of overreactions. From the sky is falling on proven studs to thinking the next Randy Moss or Maurice Jones-Drew has been discovered, there are a lot of ways a savvy manager can take advantage of the fog of war and put themselves right in there for contention. Even 0-3 teams still have a lot of ball left to play so don't give up just yet be strategic and cutthroat in roster management and trading. Let's check out our stocks this week.
BUY
Ceedee Lamb, WR, Dallas Cowboys
Lamb is currently estimated to miss about 6 weeks with a high ankle sprain. If you're white hot right out the gate and 2-1 or even 3-0, you can probably afford to sit on this guy until he comes back. We all know by this point Lamb is a proven stud and focal point of the Cowboys offense. He's also still young and in the prime of his career. In dynasty and redraft, there is no better time to go get Lamb. Especially if he's on a struggling team right now already willing to pack it in for the season. His playoff schedule for fantasy is a bit concerning going up against the Eagles, Chargers, and Vikings defenses but in a known stud like this guy it's not as concerning as an unproven commodity. Plus, who knows what other injuries might occur to those defenses and other players between now and then. Go get this guy.
Woody Marks, RB, Houston Texans
This team is a dumpster fire no lie but Marks is quickly carving a role out for himself. Marks had a lot of hype pre draft and in draft but it quickly dissipated and he was dropped in a lot of leagues after week 1. He might be on waivers as a result which is even better. Who doesn't love a penny stock? If someone in your league is still holding out hope I'm sure by this point you can get him for dirt cheap. Though the Texans are struggling Mixon is Schrodinger's Cat, Chubb is serviceable yet still showing signs of numerous injuries and age, plus Pierce is a figment of our collective imaginations. Marks has been rising in snap share steadily each week. 11, 27, and finally 48% in week 3. He's averaging a healthy 4.67 and 4.5 YPC on his limited carries and starting to get more work as a receiver too. He's facing a two game stretch of easier run defenses and when the Texans clean house of staff he's looking like another solid and young piece of the offensive puzzle to build around as his competition can easily be unseated.
Derrick Henry, RB, Baltimore Ravens
I'm admittedly a Henry Hater certified and rectified ya dig? However, dude is putting panic in puss footed owners everywhere. You know what he is just like Lamb. Yes, he's old for a running back. Yes, he has a lot of mileage but if you think the juice is still there on one of the NFL's best offenses and he can help you win a championship, act now. The snaps are still there, the YPC, the lead role as the runner. Baltimore makes you respect the passing game and you have to respect Jackson so you're put in the impossible situation of trying to contain both guys. No stacked boxes as a result. The fumbles are worrying but you know who's not concerned? The people that matter. His teammates, the coaches, offensive staff, etc. all seem unbothered and sure he can fix it. It's been just perfect defensive plays to punch it out. Especially Hutch with that amazing punch out. Crazy luck not going Henry's way. Plus weeks 14-16 are amazing for fantasy going up against Steelers, Bengals, and Patriots weak run defenses.
SELL
David Montgomery, RB, Detroit Lions
Unlike Henry, I love Montgomery so much I think about marrying him by proposing with a Thanksgiving carrot plus a nice little carat do you know what I am saying? In any case, this massive performance is not going to be repeated. Baltimore defense is having trouble to say the least this season and Gibbs is the future. Montgomery is getting older and also good for missing at least a few games every season right when you need him the most. Ask me how i know? I was also shocked to see he hasn't exceeded 40% of snaps at all this season thus far. Contrast this with Gibbs who has been between 56-69% every week. Gibbs is getting way more receptions, more snaps, more carries, and also his fair share of touchdowns. Montgomery's huge run was late in the game when the Ravens defense was already haggard and not going to be a recurring thing. Plus at that point the game script was amazing for the Lions and they used time of possession to help seal the game. Sell ASAP since they play the Browns this week, one of the hardest run ds in the league.
Tyreek Hill, WR, Miami Dolphins
The team looks terrible, the coach might get fired, and Hill relies on a lot of athletic traits and speed that can go away in an instant with age and injury. The Dolphins looked surprisingly competent against the Bills until that fateful final play. All the more incentive to send this guy packing. I don't care if you think there's a chance he goes somewhere better at the trade deadline like the Chiefs, he's not been the same player for two years. Aside from the coaching woes and team issues with a scary sight like Tua signed to a long term deal, something is off with Hill and that's not even talking about all the legal issues and family drama. This might be a ceiling game. Not good.
Devonta Smith, WR, Philadelphia Eagles
Smith is a great real life player and a contributor to his team. Let's be real though, he's not that for your fantasy team. The snaps and all that are there my main reason for selling would be this. We know this is a run first and run heavy team. Game script put them behind early and playing catch up turning to the air more than normal. Smith and Brown both benefitted. Going forward if you can predict this more power to you but Smith is too frustrating of an asset for me to play around with like I'm Good Will Hunting. Brown will always be a target siphon is an offense content to not throw and play the time of possession game plus the defense doesn't lend itself to shootouts for Hurts which is once again great for winning real life games but not your fantasy matchup.
As always, thank you all for reading and be sure to tune in on Tuesday nights for discussions of all things fantasy related on Bettor in Green, including this article. I greatly appreciate the support, let's go win some leagues.
