Welcome to English Premier League Best Bets, a Bettor in Green Article Series where we break down the latest action in the English Premier League (EPL) and my favorite bets for the upcoming matchweek.
For an overview of what to expect in this Series, check out my 2025/26 EPL Season Preview and Futures article here.
Recap:
Bournemouth gave Liverpool a scare in the opening match, leveling a 2-goal deficit by the 76th minute, but Liverpool were able to find a late winner through Chiesa, with Salah getting a goal to seal it.
On Saturday, Villa maintained a goalless draw despite getting a red card, Spurs looked solid with a wonderful bicycle kick from Richarlison, Fulham equalized late against Brighton, Sunderland got a 3-0 win, and City looked like title contenders again.
On Sunday, Chelsea and Crystal Palace played a goalless draw, Nottingham Forest beat Brentford, and Arsenal beat Manchester United at Old Trafford, despite United’s manager claiming they were the “better team.”
On Monday, Leeds enjoyed life back in the EPL with a 1-0 win against Everton.
Our bets weren’t so hot, hitting 1-2 for Best Bets (winning Man City -1.5) and 1-4 Across the Globe (winning LAFC). There were a few bad beats, with United failing to score despite 22 shots against Arsenal, and Fenerbahçe failing to win despite playing up a man for 25 minutes.
Upcoming Matches:
The weekend kicks off with West Ham hosting Chelsea on Friday.
Fun matchups include the early Saturday match as Man City host Spurs, a newly-promoted battle between Burnley and Sunderland, and Arsenal hosting Leeds.
The weekend ends on Monday, as Newcastle host Liverpool.

Let’s get to the bets:
Best Bets:
Pick #1: 2-Leg SGP: Chelsea Moneyline and Over 1.5 Goals +105 (Aug. 22, 2025; 3:00 p.m. EST):
For my first Best Bet, I’m looking at first march of the week, as West Ham host Chelsea.
Chelsea had a goalless draw with Crystal Palace last week, though they had 72% possession and 19 shots. I expect them to bounce back in force against a struggling West Ham.
Speaking of West Ham, they looked poor against Sunderland, losing 3-0 without creating any big chances.
Also, West Ham have an upcoming match on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup against Wolves. As an EPL club competing in European competition, Chelsea don’t enter the Carabao Cup until the next round.
While it is tough to rely on preseason form, Chelsea have won with over 1.5 total goals in 9 of their last 10 matches, going back to their UEFA Conference League win at the end of May.
Pick #2: Manchester United Moneyline +115 (Aug. 24, 2025; 9:00 a.m. EST):
For my second Best Bet, I’m backing another team on the road that will look to get their first win.
Manchester United travel to Fulham for matchweek 2, fresh off their loss to Arsenal. They looked strong against Arsenal, despite the loss, and started Mason Mount (traditionally a midfielder) at striker over Benjamin Šeško. An interesting experiment they tried in pre-season against Fiorentina, but I expect them to start with a more traditional center-forward against Fulham.
Fulham found a late winner against Brighton last week, something they made a habit of doing last season, scoring 7 stoppage time goals last year.
Last week, Fulham had 7 total shots, compared to United’s 22. United have spent big on 3 new attacking players, while Fulham have been quiet in the transfer window.
While Fulham could snatch a late winner at home, I expect United to keep up the attacking pressure and get a win.
Pick #3: Liverpool Moneyline +105 (Aug. 25, 2025; 3:00 p.m. EST):
For my final bet, I’m taking the final match of the weekend, Newcastle hosting Liverpool.
Newcastle are in a bit of disarray right now. They don’t have a sporting director and have struggled in the transfer market this summer, with the biggest story being Alexander Isak.
The Newcastle striker has been the top saga of the summer, having asked to leave Newcastle and expressing a desire to only join Liverpool. He’s been training in Spain and hasn’t been with the team.
The saga had a new twist this week, with Isak speaking publicly, claiming promises from the club were broken, and Newcastle saying publicly he’s under contract and welcome back to training.
This all sets up an exciting match at Newcastle.
In matchweek 1, Liverpool pulled off a late win but ended up winning 4-2, while Newcastle couldn’t find a winner against 10-man Aston Villa, having 16 shots but only 3 on target (and only 1 on target after the red card).
Across the Globe:
Real Betis Moneyline -125 (Spain; La Liga)
Borussia Dortmund Moneyline -110 (Germany; Bundesliga)
LAFC Moneyline +100 (USA; MLS)
Brøndby IF Moneyline -125 (Denmark; Superliga)
Club América Moneyline -125 (Mexico; Liga MX)
Season Record:
Best Bets: 1-2
Across the Globe: 1-4
